Israel Committee

The Israel Committee is focusing on educating members about Israel and Jewish communities throughout the world as well as supporting Israel. We do this in a number of different ways:

Israel Trip
This year we will be taking our first trip with Rabbi Katz to Israel. Running from August 22nd – September 1st, this trip will cover the “bucket list” items of an Israel trip. These include Massada, the Dead Sea, the Western Wall, Yad Vashem, and more. There is still room on the trip. To find out more and to register click here.

Speakers Series
Multiple times per year our community gathers for learning sessions around a host of Israel related topics. Usually happening on Sunday mornings at 11:15am, these talks have included debriefs after Israeli’s elections by  authorities on Israeli politics (including our own Jodi Rudoren), discussions of religious pluralism with Rabbi Josh Weinberg, president of ARZA, and a briefing on the wider politics of the Middle East with Will Wagner, from the UN. Visit out calendar for more information about upcoming Israel speakers.

WZO Campaign
Every five year the World Zionist Congress holds elections to determine the future of the state of Israel. This year, the elections run from January 21st - March 11th. Strong turnout ensures that financial resources continue to flow to our Israeli movement – including Reform congregations and institutions. It also will allow us to fill leadership positions in some of Israel’s national institutions, including the World Zionist Organization (WZO), the Jewish Agency for Israel, and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael – Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF). This will ensure that decisions about government and public spending over the Green Line, including land purchases, reflect the Reform Movement’s values and positions. Only in this way can we continue to build a democratic society in Israel that truly reflects the Jewish values we hold dear: pluralism, equality, economic justice, and peace. Israel Fiction Book Group
Join us as we launch our bi-monthly Israeli Fiction reading group. Learn about Israeli culture and politics from the source: through the writings of some of Israel's most famous contemporary authors. The next book that will be read and discussed in the TNT Israel Fiction Reading Group is “Waking Lions” by Ayelet Gundar Goshen. Previous books include Three Floors Up by Eshkol Nevo.

Contact Fred Pressman or Gary Rudorn to get involved.
