A Message from the President:   Nina Tucker

presidentWelcome to Temple Ner Tamid!

What brought my family to this congregation in 1989 was the unpretentious, welcoming atmosphere of the community. It is still that way today although our congregation has grown from less than 300 families then to over 450 now.

Our members include singles, couples, families with young children, families with older children, and empty nesters. It includes gay and lesbian couples, interracial families and interfaith families. Our membership spans all ages from infants to seniors. We are truly an inclusive, welcoming community.

Our origins in both the Reform and Conservative movements are reflected in our wide offering of services, observances and programming.

Our outstanding professional staff and scores of dedicated volunteer members enable us to provide a variety of meaningful Shabbat and other holiday services with fresh innovative programs such as Wake-Up Shabbat, Synaplex and B’yachad. The religious school caters to grades kindergarten through 12th grade with creative curriculum and programming. Shoresh, our accredited preschool, provides a quality program for children ages 15 months through five years. We have programs for seniors, educational programs for adults. Our talented staff and members provide the opportunity to weave music, writing, acting and much more in the programs and events here at Ner Tamid.

Ner Tamid serves a wider community as well. We advocate efforts that address unmet needs locally, nationally and around the world. We support our sister congregation, Mevasseret Zion Congregation, in Israel. Our members have been active in rallying local support to Save Darfur. We are active in the interfaith organizations that feed and house the homeless.

This is only a small part of what we do here at Ner Tamid. I invite you to join us for Shabbat services and see for yourself how warm and welcoming our community really is.

Nina Tucker
